Thinking about getting a boat.

Thinking about getting a boat. It's been a while, and I know ZERO about outboard marine engines. In the future, can members on here refer me to reputable area mechanics who know their stuff and are honest with their diagnosis? I'm likely going to a used smaller aluminum boat with a smaller outboard.

Also, what's everybody opinions on outboard manufacturers? Growing up, I was always told that Johnson and Evinrude were the way to go, and that Mercury aren't as reliable. Keep in mind I'm probably going to end up with a boat made in the 80's, so what are the reputations with those older motors?

Thanks.

by smaller you mean what footage? i have a couple in my yard that are for sale. and a motor also. i have a 12'er and a 14'er. and yes there are always pointers and good mechanic info on the site. whatever motor you get in the small outboard type all depends on the care and maintenance of said motor. Thanks, I'm thinking about probably a 16-footer. I'd like to just get a boat for fishing, but the old lady would be all pissed if it wasn't something I could tow her ass around with while she drinks. So I might have to look for a fish/ski. I got cash in the bank, but I got laid off and gotta get back to work before I can buy something. At least that's what I should do.
my old lady keeps telling me to get rid of a couple of my boats. but i'm not in any hurry to do so. one for every occasion! good luck on the job thing.

If it were completely up to me, I'd be happy with that little chugger in your avatar so I can take that bastard up to the little northern lakes. I don't know what I want anymore.
mine is for sale. fires up good in boats for sale thread. 84 bass tracker 15 ft. with a 25 horse mercury. but i dont have really any issues with it. it has been good to me
