I haven't used my free samples yet, but Bill Warman mentioned he thinks it enhances the action because the hook or crankbait can swing freely side to side. I assembled one to a 2/0 hook and the hook can swing 180 degrees side-to-side, but is restricted to a 90 degree swing up-to-down. No big deal in my opinion. Even less restriction I'd guess if attached to a crank's split ring. Here's the web site:
