I drive by it all the time to go up north, the stretch of river I am refering to is the one by the Fort McDowell Casino. Is there fishing any where around there? If so what kind of fish... smallies, cats, ????Thanks
I think the Verde River by Ft. McDowell Casino is on Indian Reservation. In order to fish on Indian Reservation, there may be special rules for fishing licenses, etc.
I fished it one time and there were some Indians partying in the trees up the bank. The louder they got, the more I got to thinking some negative thoughts, like maybe I shouldn't be there.
So I left. I did catch some small bass they were yellow/pale green in color. I asked a native Indian at work that next day and he said it was Indian land and that I was probably not supposed to be fishing on their land, although he wasn't entirely sure. I haven't been back since.
I used to fish in the reservation all the time but it is not legal now and they do not sell permits. If you go up the road to needle rock you can fish. I used to catch over 100 fish a day but game and fish took all limits off non-native fish in the Verde. All but a couple bass have been taken out and you would do better fishing with bread.
