Deep fried walleye "tailgate party" before the meeting thanks to the great guys from Southwest Walleye! That alone was worth the trip. Then Bill Warman, big bass expert on Canyon Lake, gave it all up in a terrific presentation on how to catch bass and walleye on Canyon. Yep, when I say he gave it all to us I mean it. He gave us the baits, the rigs, the times, the conditions, the depths and then he handed out a map of Canyon with his big bass spots! And he gave out audio CDs from a teleconference he did for a bass magazine. I'm not even 1/4 of the way through listening to that but it has even more of his tips and techniques in detail. (Josh, you've got to listen to that CD a dozen times!) And then he handed out free samples of a new system to attach hooks or lures to our fishing line. Called Tie-Not connectors, they allow you to attach a lure or hook using only an overhand knot. They look good to me for night fishing (which I don't do much of) and good for old dudes like me who can't see their line to tie the knot. Pretty cool gizmos. Bill invited one of his sponsors to attend. Ken Kross, inventor and President of Kick n' Bass was there. (Warman uses only KNB Garlic on every one of his baits) Ken Kross is good people and I've met him a couple times before. He jumped right into the meeting and was an active contributor. Thanks for attending Ken, I hope you’ll be at future meetings too. At the end of the meeting Ken gave out free bottles of KNB to anyone who wanted one. I chose Garlic of course!
Oh yeah, there were three(?) reps at the meeting from Fishing Has No Boundaries to thank Bill Warman for his efforts supporting FHNB. Bill got a t-shirt and rounds of applause. FHNB got Bill’s speaking engagement fee. That was nice. Great job last night Bill!
We had a really good, I thought so, discussion on Saguaro Lake and how to create a High Quality Bass fishery. Too many details to write up here. After a brief presentation by Jim Warnecke, suffice it to say Ken Levy had his say, I had mine, Bill Warman gave his views as well as Ken Kross. It was as good and as lively a discussion as you can have with AZGF.
After that, the Southwest Walleye Anglers had good discussion as well, from my seat at least, on 2004 plans for walleye stockings.
I suggested the next meeting be held before the next Bill Luke Big Bass Days and have BLBBD reps there to present any changes they are making to their tourney based upon our prior discussions.
I got fed great food, I got top notch fishing info, I got free stuff, I got to meet some new people, I got to have my say, and I had a great time doing it. Doesn’t get any better than that.
