I am amazed at the heat someone catches when drop shotting. Tease me all you want. I love using a technique that really works well. Now I would really like to get my swimbait technique down.

I fish a drop shot almost every time I'm on the water but I've only caught 2 bass on a drop shot. Their combined weight might be 8 oz. I don't catch fish with it and if I do they're dinks. I'd rather fish a jig and catch a hawg, but to each his own.

I've probably caught more on dropshot than anything else outside of trig. Yeah you go thru a lot of smaller fish but I've caught up to 5+lb on it and plenty of good fish. It's usually a back up plan but if I can't get bit doing something else I'll bust out my ferry wand and catch um.. And I love catching a good fish on light line...to me that's a lot more fun than yanking the same fish out in 2 seconds...although it sucks ass getting broke off of course. Float and fly is something I'm interested in learning...u gotta use a 9-10' wand for that but ppl catch huge spots on them in TN when they're suspended and cold and almost uncatchable otherwise.

I can't count how many 5-8# fish I have caught on the dropshot...I'm not ashamed to do it and don't care what people think when I'm doing it...

I did just recently switch over to a baitcasting setup from a spinning outfit and I absolutely love it...

After kicking my buddies butt a couple of times, he finally asked me how to rig a D/S. Years ago he had never caught a spinnerbait fish. Once he started trying different things he started catching, now he is comfortable with both techniques.
I love throwing blades and creature baits but will go to what is working. I would rather catch 20 dinks than 1 hog.(Well, maybe 30 dinks.)

That's the thing, when I go swimbait fishing the dropshot rods and pretty much everything else stay at home...I dedicate the entire day to swimbaiting and nothing else, it's all or nothing...

I agree yellowsub. I pull up to dock with.dropshot rod ( or two ) in plain sight. I. too have caught nice fish dropshotting. You have right idea on leaving everything else at home when swim bait fishing. I just get myself to do it yet. Oh, congrats on your monster.

I do a lot of cranking, jigging, and drop shotting. Have just started fishing the jig a lot more thanks to a buddy. But there are times when the jig is just better and times when they want something a little more subtle like the dropshot. A lot of times they both work and then it comes to preference. The jig catches bigger fish but the dropshot probably catches better numbers. But, no doubt, the drop shot is an effective technique and most tournament fishermen I know use it.

For all you doubter on th4e method of drop shot, All you have to do is watch MLF Major League fishing, watch Aaron Martens, and Bret Ehrler. They just gave the field a whopping yesterday. If you don't believe in dropshot well your just missing out. Dee Thomas gave me a flippin stick one morning, after I let him spend the night in my van. It took me three year to finaly use it, boy I was stupid. I am not going to call any of you stupid, but discounting this method is going to cost you, in the amount of fish you catch, winnings, Big fish, and lots more. I just designed two new baits for that purpose. If don't like it don't do it. For me I will keep doing it.

Can't remember there names but there are a couple of high school guys that were using the GoPro on this site that were catching some toads on dropshot. Pretty consistent too. Sometimes I get bored with dropshotting but I will never stop using it. Pretty much will get you some fish when nothing else seems to work.

I stuck a 9.8 on ds but i rarely fish it because thats rare lol. If you want to get better at swimbaits you need to leave every other pole at home. It will take you a dozen trips to gain just a little bit of confidence. It will take alot more trips than that before you have the confidence to throw/want to throw a swimbait all day with other rods in the boat. If you cant leave all your other rods at home and be fine with throwing the swimmer all day I would recommend just selling your swimbait setup now and saving money.

I watched the "Major League Fishing" event ( i think it was filmed last summer). At the end of the 2nd period ( i think 4 hours of fishing) the winner was Bret Ehler, 32 fish for 56 lbs 3 oz, for an avg of 1.75 lbs per fish. And he dropshotted the whole time. Wish I could do that! m I believe there are a couple of roboworm colors named after him. I do dropshot because it works, but enjoy faster moving methods more. Many times I have thrown everything I had on the boat and the only think that worked was a dropshot.

If you're not getting bit, you need to rethink your technique. Make sure you have everything set-up right. I very rarely don't get bites w/ dropshot.

7'6" cumara drop shot rod with a stradic. 8# floro to a swivel. 6' leader of same line # 1 straight shank hook tied with a palomar knot, line back thru the eye to a 1/4 oz. drop shot weight with about 12" leader. I vary the length of the leader between the hook and the weight sometimes. I basically followed Johnny Johnson's advice on my setup.

I caught a 7-2 on a 4.5 inch roboworm dropshot this year. I catch more rats than anything but I've caught a few 3s and 4s on it. I throw what's working. I know a few guys that use it as a last resort but I throw what is working for me, not what I want to work. Be flexible and don't be ashamed of the fairy wand.

I don't use a swivel and I personally feel a swivel interfers with the whole presentation, but that's my opinion...I want my bait to fall as natural as possible and float as long as possible...Any extra weight will just negate that...When I dropshot I tend to do pretty well...

Try switching to like a 20# braid, sufix power pro or whatever you prefer, then use a 6# Flouro leader...I prefer sufix ghost because it's white and I can see it...

I'd been wondering if a swivel above the hook affects the action... Line twist can get annoying, but braid helps..and I'm sure using a baitcaster instead of a spinning reel would also minimize the twist trouble but I've always used a spinning reel for dropshot. Might have to go back to not using the swivel cause it seems like since I started using one I haven't gotten bit as much. Only thing that's deterred me is laziness because when I get snagged and break it it's at my line to line knot so it means tying all those damn knots again for dropshot which I don't have when using a swivel..

This...There are times when I drop down to 5#...I got my a$$ handed to me by a fishing buddy/guide friend of mine and I couldn't figure out what the difference was...He asked me what # test I was using...I told him I was using 6# fc sniper, he said that was it...He was using 5# fc sniper... I switched to 5# fc sniper and proceeded to start whacking them...Sometimes these fish get so pressured that it's the little things that make a difference...
