I am taking the family camping this weekend up near Stoneman Lake. Anybody catch anything there? Should I even bother taking my gear?

Showing my age, this used to be a very cool little lake back in the 80’s. Was better than Mary for Pike, in that you could catch lots of 3-4lb pike; though we never took anything larger than 6lbs. Mormon Lake was a far better lake at the time for huge Pike. Surprised at the time it never took the record from Mary because it produced lots of big pike with a chance at a 10lb plus hookup every trip. Sad that both lakes are done, especially given Mormon was the perfect lake for Pike.
Stoneman was awesome for perch and I believe still holds the state record. It was crystal clear as well. Bummer because we fished this on one particular day in a snowstorm and caught two perch well over two pounds. We just ate them with no thought since the week before the Flagstaff paper had an article indicating the State record had been broken to the tune of 3LBs ish, so we never thought we were in the running. Unfortunately, a few weeks later we found the report of a 3lb state record was false. So, we digested two state records; I don’t even recall if they tasted good… Nice…

BTW, there is a little lake in Munds Park (Near Stoneman) that used to hold trout and modest sized cats. I am unsure if it still does. Nothing big mind you, but numbers were Ok and it was fun to wet a line when nothing else was going on… Oak Creek is close as well and you can find some out of the way places to waste some time. Tough weekend though, so I see why you want to hit Stoneman…
