The increase in bass came from the river and the chain of lakes behind it. Nobody realizes it, but there are a SHIT load of fish..or were upstream of ttl. They get stuck in the pools because they aren't used to the water in their habitat getting so low that they have to follow it down stream to prevent dying. When that water went back up, I'm sure it gathered a lot of fish and brought them back down into ttl. Which is actually what i predicted would happed when the dam broke.

 

Awesome! I was about 3 days away from getting my lake pass to kayak fish that place when the dam broke. I figured it would take a few years for the population to come back, but what the hell do I know. Thanks for the news man.

 

I started fishing it the year after it first filled and could do 30-40 fish in 4 hours on a regular basis. It slowed after a couple of years but I think we are going to get the new lake syndrome back. Add the fact that they stock it with trout now and I would not be surprised to see this lake put out a 10+ pounder in three or four years.

 

I've caught multiple 7+ fish in the water that backups to the east of TTL. So I know that we should be seeing some 10+ sooner then later.

 

I thought that land was private prop and a big time no no to fish. I have wanted to go down there for years.

 

Fish at your own risk. I've been kicked out before. It's been about a year or so since I was last down there.

Id be real careful. Ive heard big fines can be handed out but if its your first time getting busted and your nice and polite you could probably get out of it.

 

You know I might have to go grab my lake pass when I get back into town and hit TTL on Friday. One of the reasons I got my kayak was to fish that lake since its nice and close, and with all this good news about the bass population Im itchen to get out there.

 

I can confirm that you'll get out out of it the first time ... if you are nice and polite

 

You know whats funny is how many people think that being a dick to a cop or security gaurd is somehow gonna make things better. Cant tell you how much crap Ive gotten out of with a simple "yes sir, no sir, I screwed up and wont happen again sir.. I apologize". Very simple concept.

 

How do you get a lake pass for TTL? I would like to take my tinny is that even possible?

 

It should be allowed. I thought it was "trolling motor" only, but I could be wrong.

My suggestion would be to call Tempe Parks and Rec. to see if they could help you.

You can get the pass at the lake or Tempe parks and rec. It is 25 a year for non res and yes single prop trolly is all that is allowed. I bought my 12 footer just for TTL

 

By at the lake do you mean where you launch? And that's were that little marina is right? Do you need an urban license?

 

There is 2-3 foot Chanel that runs through the middle of the lake. I could burn through an entire pack of worms in an hour fishing that channel. Ever other cast was a fish

 

TTL is a state liscense lake and the rangers are very vigilant. As for the boat permit the station that sells them at the lake is located under the mill ave bridge. Near the sand beach

I've caught plenty of big fish there before the burst. Since then, nothing worth talking about as of yet.

 

Fishing above the dam is okay if you can do it from the path. Do not walk down to the water and definately do not walk down the boat ramps that are posted no trespassing. That part of the lake is mcc flood control district. If you get caught and the ranger cop etc wants to be mean its a massive fine and potential jail time. Used to be less strict till two idiots drowned when they dropped their tinny in there then ignored the ttl warning lights and sirens. More idiots ruining it for the rest of us.

park rangers have no legal jurisdiction, but they do have a radio and will call Tempe police and they do...

not worth the hassle when there are so many legal places to fish!

 

Also too far up is a marsh preserve area also a big no no fine - stupid birds! And still farther is disputed jurisdiction indian land or azgfd. Last time I checked it was not recommended I fish there either.

All we encountered was a whole mess of kayaking teams all over the flippen place that do not pay attention to where they are going.......... all over the boat ramp too.......what a mess.

Spent most of our morning next to the 202 but no luck. Two weeks ago a nice bass and a huge carp.

See if these guys put down the recreational kayak and picked up a fishin yak, Im sure this would have never happened. Sounds like you ran into the kayak version of lake lice!

 

It's been a while since I hit TTL (over a year), but I have been hearing some very good things about it.

I have a friend who loves to catch and eat carp (don't ask me why), and he swears by that place.

I'm actually thinking of hitting it today around 4pm and seeing if I can get any sunset action.

 

If you go out in the boat be sure and hit the 60foot hole. There are some big fish in there.
